Bio
Clay by Dre, in the mud where I belong
I started my pottery journey in the spring of 2021. Like a lot of people during that time, I was seeking a creative outlet. I needed something to do with my hands, something that brought me joy at a time when the world felt very scary and complicated. It was time to get muddy.
.
If you've ever tried wheel throwing before, you know that it is absolutely harder than it looks. My first class at Easthampton Clay was a challenge, and while I finished the two hour session with something like a mug, it was clear I needed a lot of practice.

While I continued taking classes, the studio moved location, expanded, and even got some new wheels and equipment. There was also more room for new members...
I joined Easthampton Clay as a member in October 2021 and tried to be there as much as possible, but with a full-time job it was difficult to make ceramics a priority. The time I spent in the studio was my me-time, my relaxation, and I wanted more playtime. After a year of experimentation, I decided to call myself an artist for real. I left my job so I could play in the mud every day!
A few successful sales, a lot of enthusiasm for what I was making, and a bit of self-doubt has led to this! A website, where I hope to expand a little into the online world, and tell you about myself and my process. Stay tuned!
What Making Means to Me
Unique
Each piece I present to the world is an individual. That's not to say I can't make two things look the same, but rather I don't want to. I sit down at the wheel and throw each pot separate from the last, I apply the handles a little differently, I make those trees one-of-a-kind. All this because I love the process and relish in making something new.
Functional
I love eating off of a plate I made, drinking coffee from my favorite mug, and watching others do the same. While I try to make beautiful things, I always have functionality in my mind as well. I make sure to glaze pieces so they are food safe, I consider the plants that may live in my pots one day, and make sure the handle fits in your hand just right.
From me to you
I derive so much joy in making. I am always having fun, trying something new, and I want that sense of wonder to translate to the piece you pick out. I love the in-person sales events because I believe you need to hold the mug, see the glazes, and feel the handles to know if it's the right one for you. Even if you can't pick it out in person and you see a photo online and decide it has to be yours, I want you to open your package with the same excitement I had when I was making the piece.
